The master´s programme “Global Change Ecology” (GCE) started in 2006. Since that time, some GCE students have already completed their Master´s degree.
We are interested to know what has been happening in the lives of our former GCE students. A few GCE alumni told us about GCE and how their careers have continued after they had finished the master´s programme.
The second one in our series is Dr.-Ing. Albert Hans Baur, who was born in Germany and started to study GCE in 2007
:

Why did you decide to study GCE?
For extending my scientific background about climate change and for implementing sustainability into politics and, most importantly, businesses.

What did you like most about GCE?
The interdisciplinary curriculum, the internships and summer schools and mostly, my great study friends.

How has your career continued after GCE?
– PhD @ TU Berlin in cooperation with Siemens
Work with E3G
– Work with sustainable AG
(s. https://www.linkedin.com/in/albertbaur/)

What is your current position? What are your tasks?
Consultant:
“Studied International Forest Ecosystem Management (B.Sc.) at the Eberswalde University of Applied Sciences with an internship semester in the United States and a study semester at the University of Vienna focusing on international development. He then went on to study Global Change Ecology (M.Sc.) at the University of Bayreuth within the Elite Network of Bavaria and completed a PhD in sustainable urban development at the Geoinformation in Environmental Planning Lab at the Technische Universität Berlin.
He has several years’ professional experience at Siemens AG, Munich RE, the Federal Foreign Office and the internationally renowned climate and energy think tank E3G.
In addition to sustainable urban development and infrastructure and mobility solutions, Albert’s focus at sustainable is on the development and implementation of customized climate and sustainability strategies with and for companies. His work is centred on climate change mitigation, adaptation to the changes that are already occurring and the management of sustainability risks across the entire value chain. One focus is on building sustainable supplier relationships and moderating multi-stakeholder events.”

How has GCE supported your career?
– Building a thorough scientific knowledge

– Extending my professional network
– Conducting meaningful internships that helped finding my way (personally and professionally)

What do you recommend to the current GCE students?
Use your time as students for
1.) collect as many practical experiences as possible (e.g., internships) and
2.) discover the world
